My name is Steve O’Connor, I am 60 years old and currently reside in Brisbane Australia. I have worked in Corporate/Retail IT for the past 45 years, I love to travel and I have done some recent travel to some beautiful locations. I enjoy running to keep fit and love the challenge of the long distance events.
Retirement
This is the word that has been haunting me for the past 12 months. When you are approaching the age of 60 things can change a lot for you. There are so many things to consider and it is all very daunting. The big consideration for me is when is the right time to retire and where will I retire. Now everyone has advice on this topic BUT only I can really answer the question.
So I have taken the first step of the Journey and retired from the corporate 9 to 5 to undertake a road to recovery for my mind, body and soul. This a road to discover and explore new opportunities, new locations, new events and new cultures. It’s time to reconnect with family and friends and clear the mind of the daily chaos. It’s time to learn new things and rediscover old passions like photography and get my running shoes back on.
So what’s it all about Exploring, Capturing and Inspiring?
I am setting out to explore new travel destinations, run locations, run events and capturing this with digital media in the hope to inspire others to live their lives to the full.
“It’s feels awesome to hit the road for a long run and I love exploring somewhere new.”
I have completed multiple marathons and while they came easier when I was younger the latter ones have all been very tough. A 3.21 marathon at 16 is so different to a 4.0.56 hour marathon at 52. Now I am 60 and I just want the legs to get moving. While my marathons maybe few and far between in future I want to strive to parkrun regularly, complete Half marathons regularly and definitely enjoy the 10km fun run events.
I have always loved to travel and running is a passion I have had since I was a youngster. Photography has always interested me but I have never really found time to pursue it, so
